A little late to weigh in on this, but there are some things here that need to be addressed. First, the \"benefit\" remark. Last winter, the leaders of two bands, Blarney Street Hooligans and The Backsliders, organized benefits for BOS. They worked very hard on them and they were very successful. Enough to keep BOS going. The last benefit, the one that never happened, was originally my idea and supposed to be a benefit for some other cause, chosen by me. By this time I had become aware that repeated benefits for the club itself would begin to grate on the public and no one would take it seriously. A well meaning employee recruited bands and printed posters billing the event as yet another Bar of Soap Benefit.
About the drug remarks...well if your name rhymes with \"Dope\" it\'s inevitable that people would think it\'s funny to go around calling the place Bar of Dope or Coke or whatever. That joke was funny for about the first 15 years, and by the way, Meth heads don\'t drink very much and we were in the business of selling alcohol and entertainment.
In the end, the fifth recession we have been through was what closed Bar of Soap. Our friends would come in and explain to us that they simply couldn\'t afford to go out much, and we have a lot of good friends, but most have simply grown up and moved on. To those who still go out, we hope you have fun and might see you in another incarnation.
