AFI Film Festival-- Glass: A Portrait of Philip in 12 Parts (Angelika Theater)
Documentary about legendary 20th Century composer Philip Glass that follows him for a year, in the present day, as he conducts a symphony and tackles many other musical projects. The film also includes classic interviews with Glass from several different points throughout his career, as well as commentary on his career from a cast of people who know Glass personally and/or study his work. Should be good. AFI Film Festival-- Joy Division (Angelika Theater)
This one is said to include a lot of rare live footage as well as interviews with all former members of Joy Division (New Order, duh) as well as various other figures who were part of Joy Division's circle in the late 70's. Not sure if Tony Wilson took part before his untimely death, but his comments always add something to anything, so I hope he did. Check the AFI link above for more info on these films. Saul Williams (the Loft)
Slam poetry. Do I need to say any more than that? Actually, this guy is surprisingly tolerable from time to time despite his association with something so lame. But only every once in a while. The Anti-Flag in store at Good Records happens very soon, at 4pm to be specific. Then they play tonight at the Granada later in the evening. Here's a fun game: name as many Warped Tour veterans as you can that don't suck. Anti-Flag is an incorrect answer in said game, and its not just because of their dumb haircuts. Avail, Hot Water Music, Flogging Molly... Doosu played a pretty awesome set one year but most of you are probably too young to remember or care about them. |

The only Warped tour that was not instant lame was the first one. Quicksand, Sick of it All, Sublime(before they were very well known, and obviously before that guy OD'd), Orange 9mm, Seaweed, and alot of lesser bands i cant remember...and most of you were probably in jr. high school then. |

12:35 :Of those bands.. all of them suck except.. NOFX, and Guttermouth.. Except playin a Warp Tour makes you suck.. So NOFX, and Guttermouth kinda suck now(you tube fat mike and golf).. Pretty sucky.. huh..
Bands that I still listen to that have played warp tour by Cliffnotes. Lag Wagon, Strung Out, Guttermouth, Bad Religion, Ten Foot Pole, Face to Face..
Denton Fun Fact.. Rancid played Mr. Gattis basement(what you now know as JnJ's) with Gals Panic back in i think 95??
Dallas Fun Fact.. There use to be a week of shows called North of South By Southwest in dallas back in like 94.. It was pretty much just punk bands.. For the price of a few cans for food not bombs you could see NOFX, Face To Face, and Lag Wagon all in 1 night. |
