If any of you out there are following the upcoming opening of Sloppyworld, here's the update on the delays. Reproduced without kind permission of John Freeman:

As most of you know, I am opening what should be the most awesomest rock club/community center/bad ass hang out joint in the history of Earth. My original intention was to have it open by early April. Well thanks to the red-tape clad pencil pushing permit punks down at the good ol' permit office on Jefferson in Oak Cliff, this is now not a realistic date. I have spent probably 8 or 9 hours total down there trying to get 3 simple permits: a Certificate of Occupancy (or C.O.), a building permit (so we can actually build a stage and a bar etc.) and a Special Use Permit (S.U.P.). I need them in that order. Usually someone opening a business has a general contractor who does all that for them. I decided to not hire a contractor for reasons that are inconsequential. (I have good people that I trust who are doing the work for me for much cheaper and better quality etc.) The space I am opening the club in was previously occupied by an old antique store that was there for at least 15 years. You would think that getting a C.O. would be no big deal. Just fill out the one-page form (which I did) and hand it in. Well, after 2 days of pure hell in that stinky office going from one room to another and eventually ending up in the basement archive room with the microfilm guy they tell me that "3601 Parry Ave. does not exist".
Meanwhile, I have a "Clean & Show Permit" with the City of Dallas seal on it along with an inspection card emblazoned with the name of a man who actually came out and inspected the space late last year. Yet, the address does not exist. I guess I have been hauling trash and painting an imaginary building. Maybe it's some kind of DUNE-esque space-folding spice related thing. Well, anyway, this all became so overwhelming that I had a small to medium nervous breakdown last week and just lay in bed watching Law & Order til I couldn't take it anymore.
After the fog lifted, I finally have my landlord working on it like I should have done in the first place and hopefully we will have SLOPPYWORLD open by the first of May.
My advice: If you are a small businessman who has never done anything like this before, get as much help from people who know what they are doing as possible. This almost broke me, but god-dammit! I am back and stronger than ever and this fucking venue will blow your fucking mind out of your asshole!!!!
