in case you were wondering...

The Mavs are still better than the Suns. In fact, they're the best team in the league right now. That is all.

Sports are a great thing to care about! They're so exciting and better to spend your time on than to lay around memorizing first albums or making terrible top tens or whatever else 'music scene' people are supposed to be doing. Besides, the Mavs kick ass.

If Tarpley is Sid Vicious, then...

Nick Van Exel is New Edition (you know when they were good before BelBivDevoe, Bobby Brown etc).

And please if there's any justice in the world let Don Nelson be some mindblowing mash up of Serge Gainsbourg, Dean Martin and the Will Ferrell spoof of Robert Goulet.

I know I totally blew the major v. indie analogy but just the thought of Don Nelson in prison stripes and shitfaced watching the game from Dave and Busters while on suspension makes me smile every day.

I like where the sarcastic sports team/music label analogy is going - if Cuban is the Mavs' Capitol Records, then what're the equivalents of Don Carter and Ross Perot?

I have no idea, really. But if we're playing musical metaphors, then Roy Tarpley is clearly Sid Vicious.

yeah, a bunch of jocks came up to me and called me a mainstream douchebag because I just started writing about the mavs last year. I tried to explain to them that I was way into the early Mavs stuff that they before they signed to a major label (Mark Cuban), but these guys didn't believe me. Jerks.
