it list : thursday

Ok- in the name of fairness, we'll give credit to Kate Mackley (spelling?) for the photo of Emil Rapstine below. And for the record, we got it off their myspace page and didn't see a copyright on it, so we didn't even consider crediting whoever took it. For future reference, if anyone has a photo that appears on here that we have mistakenly failed to credit or would like to have a photo removed, please email Weshotjr@yahoo.com and let us know. Music stuff:

FIRST: The wonderful people over at Clear Channel are sponsoring a WSJR contest for tonight's Scott Stapp show at Nokia or wherever it is... and this ones just for the ladies! And the gay gents! Anyway, if you want to win, post in the comment thread telling us which Creed song you find most inspirational and why, and the winner will get to blow Scott backstage, and then pray with him that the Republican controlled congress' approval ratings go up so that they can maintain control after the November election (this also happens to be in the best interest of Bush pal Tom Hicks, who is a major Clear Channel shareholder)! Sound sexy and fun? Well if that isn't enough, you'll get an autograph and a free t-shirt! Bonus!

1. Attractive and Popular | Occasional Detroit | Juiceboxxx (J&Js Denton)
So in case you've never witnessed the no wave dance attack Attractive and Popular, tonight would be a good night to do so considering that they are playing with the excellent OD and Juiceboxx at J&Js, where I have decided the pizza and pints rule just as much as anything else. Don't be dumb: go to this show. Starts at 9.

Attractive and Popular will also be playing @ the White House in Denton later tonight (I assume after their first show) with Chief Death Rage, which should rule. Its next door to the yella house in case you don't know.

2. Theater Fire | Red Hunter/ St. Vincent (Double Wide)
Like it or not, Theater Fire could be the best currently active Dallas based band around right now. And I said DALLAS, not Denton or anywhere else. And Theater Fire is actually from Ft. Worth I think, so forget it. And St. Vincent is a GVB fav, so if you're usually down with what Chris is down with, this would be a good reason to go early. Sorry, can't find the Red Hunter myspace and I gotta run.... it couldn't be that great anyway, could it?

3. Dj G 80's House and electronica (Hailey's)

I was a Dognapper tonight, and I thought we we kinda ruled/sucked. Not bad/good for our first/last show. There was a moment of, like, "HEY!" and then some moments of "UM?" and once I saw a guy, like, "WHAT?"

Lambsbread and Magik Markers were rad, and there were, oh, 10 people there tops. This will probably be the last tour by MM, as the guitar player Leah is tired of gigging like crazy. She didn't go on this tour.

y'know, when I think about it I have to agree. we kinda' are wierd asses. not that our asses are weird (to the contrary they are quite juicy).

I had a great time last night. If any of you were in the crowd, thanks for coming. I'd never seen the Naptime Shake before and was duly impressed.

How did the Dognappers show go?

Copyright law does not protect sightings. However, copyright law will protect your photo (or other depiction) of your sighting of Elvis. Just send it to us with a Form VA application and the $30 filing fee. No one can lawfully use your photo of your sighting of elvis, although someone else may file his own photo of his sighting of elvis. What??? I for one feel better now that i know who took that picture.

"are you really trying to convince somebody that rappers are supposed to be dumb and/or poor?"

no. i'm trying to say that rappers are not supposed to be sheltered SMU grads.

Anonymous says..1:26 AM

actually, I wouldn't mind the weird touring thing if the songs were worth a damn.

tex winters says..1:25 AM

peter and the wolf is kind of gimmicky, with the "hey, I'm trying to be really really weird" thing he has going on, but he's got some really great songs. I'd like to tour on a ship, even if it was a gimmick.

Anonymous says..1:10 AM

peter and the wolf is a lame novelty. if you have to tour picnic tables and school buses, you must be really "interesting".

Rj says..12:59 AM

It's a shame creed became so devious and had to break up. I remember seeing some article saying that Scott would sometimes do a shot of Jagermeister before a show. That guy is fucking wild.

For a song, I would have to say "my own prison" is inspiring, because they were able to musically convey what it must be like to be ass raped in a jail cell.

stonedranger says..12:21 AM

is it strange that I actually kind of liked that song?

anon 3:53: are you really trying to convince somebody that rappers are supposed to be dumb and/or poor? and to clarify, astronautalis isn't Average Homeboy.

but astro's not performing until tomorrow and saturday. tonight's steve austin & sivion at the gypsy.

i don't think photo credits are really necesary when the pictures are simply snap shots.. the problem with kate mackley's 'photos' is that they are simply snap shots with bad lighting, and a total absense(possibly awarness) of composition.. and yes i did check out her website.

o well jr i'll quit being so brown.

i didn't know that the guys from jackopierce went all hip hop

yeah... there is somethng wrong about picking up a newspaper only to read this headline "peparing for three area shows this weekend, the RAPPER AND SMU GRAD discusses his musical reinvention"

I dont think i want to see some smu kid rap. is that bad? am i a racist and bad person?

I think i know where tom hicks lives. you guys wanna do the flaming poop bags trick to him? or maybe continually blast clear channel "rock" @ his house untill he realizes the mistake he's made (much like the family guy where the knife wielding murderor gets bored and stabs himself only to realize "ouch! that really hurts... this is what i've been doing to people? i deserve to be here").

we could do it!

shamone, make that chaaaaaange!

Yes. I just found out today that St. Vincent isn't playing.

Unfortunate because Annie has an amazingly beautiful voice, but Peter and the Wolf and The Theater Fire are well worth the $5.00.

Here's the MySpace link to Peter and the Wolf:

the obviously best creed song is "with arms wide open." with its inspiring lyrics that propelled it to the top of the billboard charts in the late 90's, it insprired me to become a born again mormon, then scientology expert, and now a satanist. thank you scott stapp for driving drunk and always denying it, being a total douchebag and having really awkward chest hair and probably awkward pubes too. like "it looks like whoopi goldberg lived in his crotch" pubes.

Sam Machkovech says..10:21 PM

It's official: St. Vincent dropped out of the show because the band is stuck in New York. But Peter & The Wolf is awesome enough to be worth checking out.

Also, The Naptime Shake plays at Dan's Silverleaf tonight, opening for a semi-rare gig by longtime Denton weird-asses Lo-Fi Chorus.

And there's some like rap or something at the Gypsy.

I think the song by creed that inspires me most is Jeremy. I will now shoot myself in front of the blog.

Also if you look at the pic from The Angelus's Myspace page the credit is given, and it's not to Kate. Cool.

cool. And you don't win the contest either.

Red Hunter is aka Peter and the Wolf/ whiskey and apples collective. Good stuff.

stonedranger says..10:09 PM

dude, you totally don't win the Scott Stapp contest.

I think St. Vincent isn't playing anymore. Maybe something to check into if anyone cares. Cool.
