it list : wednesday

In addition to your normal Wed. activites (It's What We Get at Hailey's and a wonderful dancehall/dubstep/reggae fix with Taxi Fare at Zubar), you could maybe go see:

Gazelles | Dignan | Teenage Cool Kids (Rubber Gloves)

I'd watch local-way-better-than-they-should-be pop-punk guilty pleasure Teenage Cool Kids for a few and peace out. Most of their songs remind me of that time I got dumped when I was 16 and cried into my Bad Religion shirt, which isn't a dis on them at all. For some reason, I actually like remembering that.*

* This is a dramatization of actual events. I've never cried.

I've thought about it quite a bit(what's wrong with me?), and yes, critique is unfortunately necessary. Thank you, 12:19am.

Shit, sometimes I just can't wait to die.

gazelles were way better that night

because it's critique, fool

Why do people bother writing about bands that they don't like? It just seems like an awful waste of time. Almost as much of a waste as writing about people who write about bands they don't like. :P

I really liked what i heard on the TCK myspace. I was hoping for the next Superchunk. When I saw them live it was boring and made me regret missing that night's episode of Brett Michaels:rock of love.

coulda just caught them on a bad night though.

im a huge fan of POP says..6:02 PM

and ive never got into teenage cool kids....seen them a few times and nothing, even played a show with em, nothing. They're nice, but nothing. I had an bad encounter with the drummer about four years ago that may give me the lack of an impressionable stamp in my brain that TCK gives me. I understand that drunk people grow bigger balls than usual and thats why i didn't kick his ass, a younger me wouldn't have hesitated. Times like those have come and passed, and when they do you just slip it right in the anus, walk away, and take it like a MAN! ?!?!Constructive Criticisim?!?!

Any other time TCK usually gets compared to Built to Spill, Pavement or Superchunk. This is blog is the only time they are called pop punk. I guess I could see that in the energy of their live shows but never on record (not a bad thing).

Does having a Milo tattoo make me an ironic hipster? Fuck I hope not.

Also what the fuck ISN'T derivative these days? I can guarantee you the most out-there shit anyone is into has at least been 95% done before. Not that it matters. Teenage Cool Kids rule, Descendents rule, CASE CLOSED.

i can understand where stonedranger is coming from with this description. I've only seen the band once at Panhandle, but the house seemed to billow in and out with the crowd from the street. That said, they are extremely derivative pop-punk. Makes sense to me. Timeless fun with decent music.

whatever the fuck you actually mean

the shittiest music i can think of has no emotional value. Those bands are what i call "bro" bands and their equal-and-opposite-reaction - "indie rock". Now I'm only talking about those bands who do not want to actually put themselves out there, and make up for it by trying to be clever, going into every song thinking "you know what would be funny if we did.." They either dont HAVE emotions or they don't want to seem "emo." Whatever the fuck that actually means.

For me, it has more to do with growing up enough to admit that I still listen to Milo Goes to College sometimes.

its ironically hip to listen to the teenage cool kids, who genuinely like the descendants, who haven't been hip since 8th grade, but they have been ironically hip since 2004. - taken from allmusic.com

1. Not a backhanded compliment. Just a personal observation mixed with a joke.

2. I ALMOST cried during House Party, but never actually cried. I became emotional because I understood the range of emotions that Kid experienced throughout the movie: on the one hand, you can go for Tisha Campbell. She's cute and sweet and def likes you. On the other, you can go for, uh, the other girl. The other girl is super sexy and a lof of fun, and probably more ideal than Tisha in your eyes, but she doesn't care about you as much, and really, at the end of the day, you know the two of you wouldn't be a very good match, whereas you and Tisha have a lot more in common. So you have to choose, and it's tough. It also doesn't help that you have a friend who thinks he's a bad ass rapper when he's really just so-so at best.
