yeah, that's actually what i was trying to get at. i wouldn't call it a "strong unified music scene", but i'd say new york and LA for instance have bigger reputations for being known as music towns than anywhere in texas... in that particular genre at least. and i'm not just talking about justice, they're just obviously the main topic here.

but if we're talking hip hop or rap, i'd think of going to houston or maybe dallas on my first US tour if i were from overseas. i could be wrong, but i think dallas is turning into a houston knock-off in terms of music and fashion/shopping. i bet we could still beat their plastic surgeons though!

it is not nec. a strong "music scene" that these other cities have on the coasts... it is that they have a larger number of Consumers that are willing to spend money to see a corporately produced event. the majority of the demographic that has the $ here in dfw are ozzfest fans (and i am not making a value judgement upon their taste)and just mainstream hip hop, pop, adult contemporary and the established names like dylan, etc.

i personally only enjoy performances at diy venues. i really don't want to go through the hassle of a corporate show regardless of who it is. i would be closer to being a ticket buyer to say a show like justice- but i'm not. i don't like the music etc. but even if i did like it i still wouldnt go through the industry hoops to go.

i think it's all stupid too, but i genuinely wish that a lot of my favorite UK/aussie/etc acts would play in texas sooner. its really a combination of tour economics and feeling out if the US is responsive at all. hype or not, a foreign band wants its best chance at making a tour successful, so they're going to hit the cities they think will make the biggest impact first.

unfortunately since it seems that there isn't a tightly niched music scene around here, we're almost always on the back end of that. that, and there may or may not be a connection with the fact that most of the popular shit you hear these days are from those coastal cities. i'm not into drawing lines in music, genre/class/whatever specific, but when half a city calls the other half posers the whole time, etc etc, there's not a whole lot of room for progress.

but that's just my opinion.

SR -

I don't think it's quite that sinister - I think it just makes more financial sense to tour on the coasts since that's where the most people are.

I'm sure you already know that - I thought this illustrated it well:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:USA_states_population_density_map.PNG

If you're plotting a tour - and you want to make some scratch - doesn't getting to TX become at least the 3rd priority, behind East and West coast? Especially with the cost of gas?

If justice playing the coasts before Texas means the coasts are cooler well they can keep their fucking cool.

Besides if hyped "acts" and hot industry recording professionals playing in your digs is a measure of how cool a place is then the coasts can keep buying the bullshit.

I’ll take h.o.t. or the 8th or 1919or panhandle or sanctuary (R.I.P.) or slutbanger any fucking day over some overdone overcrowded over priced formulaic New York or California spack....

Self-effacement is lame

Not spam. Just mentioning a remix we posted that people that are fans of Justice may dig. If you don't know who Justice and dance music of the ilk you probably just don't get the connection.

Justice is a little overhyped and played out, but the album is good. If someone bases their opinions on how much hype a record gets and how many hipsters are listening to it over actually sitting down and listening to it doesn't that make a person the definition of poseur.

my 2 cents.

oh yeah.....

Fuck Wanz

beat ya to it.

Damn, Wanz is slipping. It took him 9 hours and 17 minutes to spam this thread.

true they're played out a bit now for some, but when i first got the album (only about a year ago), it was the only thing i listened to for a week or two. i'm still curious to see what the hype is about regarding their sets.

and yeah, you either like something or you don't. get over yourself mate. i think it's funny how the "pretentious hipsters" are being out pretentiousized by the "anti-hipsters".

i do agree though that justice should have come 6 months ago...they are played.

isn't everyone in dallas a poser?

stonedranger says..4:47 AM

I love when people accuse other people of "acting like they like" something. Where do you get this shit from anyway?

Paradeofflesh says..3:11 AM

i am so over justice at this point w. all the endless remixes and articles. I had mp3s of that stuff in 2005; mind you that whoever goes will enjoy themselves, dance and have fun; which is the point. i am just a little bummed it took this long for them to ccume here. IT WILL BE FULL OF CHILDREN AND 30THOUSANDAIRES.

and yeah i agree that people look at the coasts, then decide what to bring to the south.

I'm not bitter or anything... says..3:00 AM

But justice is fucking bogus. I can't believe people act like they like that bullshit. I'm sure that place will be filled with all the poser assholes that hang out at the cavern on mondays. Better get the photographers ready, so you can have proof that you were there.

oh yeah, fuck hot chip too.

i'm pretty sure that's exactly how it works SR... texas isn't what most people would call a tastemaker i suppose? idk...

stonedranger says..10:41 PM

do you ever feel like national booking agents are like "well now that the coasts have been digging this stuff for a year or more, I guess it's trickled down to fly over country and we can bring it to Texas?" I get that feeling all the time.

stonedranger says..10:40 PM

agreed.
