Bonde Do Role | The Death Set (The Loft)
This is the first night of back-to-back showcases of Diplo cohorts, and both should be big, rude, fun spectacles. Bonde Do Role has survived some tough lineup changes, and continues to be an internationally influential force. Death Set is a little much, there's a weird glossy pop-punk aspect to their music that brings to mind images of badly spiked hair and X-treme snowboarding highlights.

Landlord | Party Garbage | Brickfight (Exploding House)
Bloomington Indiana's Landlord is the standout act, with the pretty good mid-tempo demo songs on their page, which feature some nervous but unique vocals.

Kanye West | N.E.R.D. | Lupe Fiasco | Rihanna (Superpages Center)
Recently, the 25th Anniversary Edition of Michael Jackson's Thriller was released with "bonus tracks" including several atrocious updates by current popsters, including a particularly bad outing by Fergie. Either surprisingly or not, depending or where you stand, there was one excellent contribution by Kanye West where he (melo)dramatically saps "Billie Jean" of its original beat, and ice-funk feel, and instead adds some very stirring stings, thus rendering the song into a nightmarishly dark piece of postmodern 80's chamber pop. How's that for pretentious? Anyways, listen to it. Not only is it really great, it made me respect his production ability, whereas I previously hadn't thought much of it other than the sped up sample technique being the one-trick-pony polar opposite of DJ Screw's revolution. As for N.E.R.D., I'm not much for Steely Dan, and certainly not through the cloudy revisionist lenses of studio geeks smirking from behind their aviators.

The Raconteurs | Birds Of Avalon (House Of Blues)
If you pay fifty dollars to see this show, you get what you deserve: a willfully dumb regression to "good ol' fashioned rockin'" that makes "Smokin' In The Boys Room" sound like it was written by a fucking genius.

Gazelles | Broadcast Sea | Western Legend | Western Civilization (Rubber Gloves)

80's Night With DJ G (Hailey's)

TMNT Trilogy and pizza sounds pretty amazing. I will only watch the first two, though. No time travel shit. Tokka and Rahzar saved the second film from being completely worthless (Super Shredder WTF?). Name the time and place and I'll be there. I thought DL was a girl.

I just realized Broadcast Sea and Blueprint Sea are two completely different bands. Also, what's the difference between Real Live Tigers and Raised By Tigers? Are yall getting this stuff out of the same indie baby names bible?

The General says..2:09 AM

That new Raconteurs record is not very good IMO. I've been a fan of most of Jack's stuff, but i got a leak of the new record and already deleted it from my computer. It's nothing about being "hip", the new record just sounds rushed and insincere to me.

The first record they did was ok for what it was, Jack Whites mainstream rock record. I saw them on that tour, and they weren't very good live. i wouldn't pay a dime to see them again. If you like it though, that's great. To stop reading a local music blog because they don't like a national act seems silly to me though.

Anonymous says..1:39 AM

i dont give two shits about any of the bands on that list. fuckem all, although as shitty and old and cynical and jaded as i am, i like some of the white stripes even though i have never bought any of thier albums. worrying about being hip is for children.

Anonymous says..11:35 PM

I wouldn't argue if the best name-dropping you can do is Brian Jonestown Massacre, hon.
Go take your Metamucil.

sorry says..11:27 PM

but some of the Bonde Do rol shit sounds silly.

I can only handle small doses of it and frankly are a bit played/overhyped.

and lol @ "losing a reader" over Jack White's ass.

Seriously thats a piss take right?

i'm not sensitive and i really don't give a fuck what anybody thinks. but to slag a good band off like that is just lame. maybe it's not your cuppa tea, but come on now.

Anonymous says..10:36 PM

congratulations. by knocking jack white, you just lost all credibility. not to mention a reader.

stonedranger says..10:36 PM

why do you have to resort to the "oh, i guess it's just not hip enough for you" argument? sorry dude, the raconteurs suck, and hip has nothing to do with it.

ive also shit like 6 times today.

NO, IT IS NOT HIP! LOSER!

Anonymous says..10:27 PM

i've heard plenty, including the new raconteurs album. that, the new boris, brian jonestown massacre and the latest super furry animals are probably my favorite "rock" albums of the past few months. so what?

we get it, it's not cool to like the white stripes.

Defensive Listening says..10:20 PM

I love good rock music. Have you heard any lately? Maybe you can help me out. I can say with absolute certainty that I've never bought my supply from Jack White.

"a willfully dumb regression to good ol' fashioned rockin"

that's the stupidest thing i have read here in a while.

raconteurs are fucking great.

oh i'm sorry, is it not hip to still like good rock music?
