FRIDAY

Christian! Teenage Runaway Release Party with Koji Kondo and Kaboom (1007 Oakland St. Denton)
This sounds like it's going to be a blast. A house/record release party for C!TR, who will be starting their set some time around 10, followed by performances from Koji Kondo and kaboom some time later in the evening. According to a post in one of our comment threads, the current incarnation of CTR won't be around for long, so you might want to see them while you still have a chance. Two great live bands plus Kaboom, who I wouldn't call "great" just yet, although they seem like they might be on their way to something good.

St. Vincent | Scout Niblett (Hailey's)
I'm not sure if St. Vincent's moody, dramatic pop is exactly my thing, but I guess if that kind of thing is your kind of thing then you might dig her kind of thing. She reminds me a lot of Tori Amos, but that's probably just because I'm an asshole.

DJ Battle with Select, Prince William, Big J and more (Absinthe Lounge)
These are usually a pretty good time, although Absinthe Lounge would be doing everyone a favor if they got a bigger sound system. The excellent Select and Prince William should keep things interesting.

SATURDAY

Shearing Pinx | Eat Avery's Bones | Nouns Group | Christian! Teenage Runaway | Koji Kondo | Icarus Crane (UTD Campus-Richardson)
Probably the biggest bill of the week, and it will be a good one. I've never heard Shearing Pinx before, but they sound pretty good, and I bet anyone who is into any of the other local acts on this bill will probably enjoy them. This show is going on at the UTD campus in Richardson just outside the student union near the tennis courts. Go to Radio UTD's website for more info. If it rains, they have a plan to move everything inside. Starts at 8pm and serves as a charity event for Operation Kindness, which helps baby puppies and lil' kittens and shit.

Zanzibar Snails | Cue | Balmorhea (Hailey's)
Cue and Zanzibar Snails sound like quite a perfect pairing to me: while Zanzibar might just cause massive paranoia with their nervous and violent build ups of ecstatic noise, Cue seems to be quite good at playing up the calmer, more "post-rock" chamber music influenced side of things, keeping you nice and calm before ZS knock you down.

The Night Game Cult | Angry Businessmen | Ribelle Scaltro | Delphi
(8th Continent)
I believe these shows usually start around 9 or 10, and they're always free. Go see what kind of show Kyle from Night Game decides to put on, because you never know what you're going to get. UPDATE: THIS SHOW IS CANCELED DUE TO WATER DAMAGE AT 8TH CONTINENT.

Voot Cha Index | The Happy Bullets | Hardin Sweaty and the Ready to Go | Chris Garver (Rubber Gloves)
This is both a reunion show and a countdown to the inevitable end for Voot Cha Index, as the band gets together for the first time in a while before most of their members move off to college at the end of the summer. Fans won't want to miss this show.

Dj Pierre (Minc Lounge)
Surprised there aren't a few more people talkin about this show. DJ Pierre was a major figure in the original wave of Chicago acid house, developing some of the first tracks to prominently feature the Roland 303 as a member of Phuture, who released one of the most important acid house tracks in history ("Acid Trax"). Pierre has also worked with or received props from such DJs and producers as Carl Craig, Bob Sinclar and Michael Mayer. Some people would even say that the guy INVENTED acid house, although there were obviously a lot of other producers involved. Anyway, a true dance music legend at Minc for a $10 cover. Sounds worth it to me.

Sorta | Current Leaves (Dan's Silverleaf)
Go see Current Leaves open for Sorta, and maybe try to track down some of the Hardline dudes while you're at it. Do they go to Danny's shows? I have no idea. And Sorta has a fairly decent cover of Pavement's "Stop Breathing" if you care to listen.

SUNDAY

Violent Squid | Koji Kondo(Rubber Gloves)

The Beatdown | Thee Finelines (SHQ Denton)

the scene has always been good. the scene is good right now. people have always acted like the scene was better in the past.

the scene is best when you are in yr 20s. so whenever that is for you is when the scene is at its peak.

I really want to know --also if you have any pictures and or video of them you should share --

"The local music scene has never been as lame as it is now."

I beg to differ. I have never been so excited about local music. I wish it was like this several years ago when my old band was trying to find other bands to play with.
Now with Sloppyworld about to open, I can just see this place getting huge recognition.
Sure there is a lot of stuff out there that sucks, but come on, there is a lot of stuff that is freaking great.

Koji Kondo absolutely fucking killed......most fun I have had at a local show in a while, can't wait to see them again......

Nouns Group ruled. Shearing Pinx was kinda cool, interesting dissonant hard-rock, but nothing I need to see again. EAB shoulda had more time.
Like Alex, I thought the mosquitoes were eating me alive. And yet today, nothing itches. It's rained every day for weeks, temps haven't even gotten close to 100 in mid-july Texas and the mosquito bites don't itch. What kind of strange parallel world is this?

voot cha index sounded better than ever last night. all of the bands had above-average sets, actually. well done.

UTD was fun, but mosquitoes ate me alive. the first band was pretty mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Nouns group was AwESOME. Id seen them once before, but they didn't really grab me then, but this time they were pretty great.

The show at The 8th Continent is unfortunately canceled to do to water damage/30,000 mosquitoes/open insulation(due to probably black mold removal)/general dank ass nastiness.

The show will me moved to a later date if possible. Have a killer night, dudes! :p

I know nothing of Esther having any involvement with Bob White. As far as I know she is mainly a solo performer but has been playing in unison with Ribelle Scaltro as of late. They sound like a really dark, female version of Simon and Garfunkel.

Esther Newell is playing at The 8th Continent tonight as well. She's has one of the most beautiful voices i've ever heard and harmonizes wonderfully with Ribelle Scaltro. Just thought i'd mention her since she wasn't listed on here.

"Only two bands combined from the list on the actual page and what is mentioned here are worth seeing.

The Beatdown
Current Leaves

Everything else is questionable at best.

Oh and slackbeat? Seriously? The sound of my shit hitting the water is more pleasing to my ears. Well actually shitting is quite pleasurable so maybe that was a compliment. I might go see them now.

Don't try and talk me out of my own argument!

2:50 PM"

You made your own little list. I like that. Get creative!

Congratulations, you like music.

Real Live Tigers is playing Dentron again at J&J's before heading off to God Knows Where again. You should really see him. It's free and he's a wonderful songwriter. Sarah Reddington is playing, too, which is always a fun thyme down in the deBasement.

It is very, very easy to be mean on here. You must know that, stonedranger. Why do you want me to be mean? You know how easy it is to rip on people behind this mask. Don't play dumb with me. You love the attention that we give you.

I'm not sure I like you at all, whomever you are. You're lucky you're anonymous as well. I guess you're good for one thing: Information.
