shane english: conspiracy theorist ep

Just had a chance to check out the new EP from Shane English (Ghosthustler, Undoing of David Wright, Chief Death Rage), and I highly recommend that you head over to his Soundhead blog and download it for free, because it's excellent. Anyone who likes Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, early industrial like Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, or even early Human League will probably dig it, as will those who are in to darker early 80's electro like Nine Circles and even contemporaries like the Knife and Indian Jewelry. I know that's a lot, but there are bits and pieces of all those sounds throughout the EP. Here is the link.

wonderful job, shane. these are some beautiful, very personal recordings.

shane writes and records music all the time. this EP is the result of a large number of people who have had the privilege of hearing his personal recordings asking him to compile them onto a CD. it is what it is, and it's not intended to be an intricately crafted, overproduced piece of wankery or anything.

i think musical cyberspace would be a lot better for it, if more musicians would shut up and start doing the same thing.

starting a blog with friends to create spin for your scene? What the hell are you talking about? I do happen to be a part of the "Watched Billy Madison 100 Times or More" scene, but I've only talked about that like twice. And any ideas about how we could challenge ourselves more? I'd love to hear them.

The other comments below-- this is what we need more of here. I'll share my thoughts on the album in an upcoming review, but calm, thoughtful criticism is always welcome, even if I don't necessarily agree.

Sounds unfinished. Holy Cup doesn't fit at all. And I know I'm just an anonymous person, but that also means that I'm just an average listener. There are some decent ideas, but they don't go anywhere. I'm a fan of the minimalist approach, but there is a point when it's just boring. This album needs a lot more time put into it.

I do like it, but the EP does sound a little underdone to me. Of course he mentioned it's something he's been messing around with for a short time. Musically it is pretty solid, but the vocals could use some work. I do think it has great potential, and would like to see what he puts out after a couple months. I would also like to see how he can expand on whats been done before.

i'm already doing those things. but hey, starting a blog with friends to create a spin for your scene is a little, let's say, a little transparent. love ya though.
i'm not against fun. i'm wanting you to challenge yourselves a bit more.

laters.

no shit... it looks like a decent # of people downloaded it, so does anyone who has actually listened to it have any thoughts?

And building 7 didn't blow itself up. Fucking awesome, Shane!

Leave Shane alone. All he did was write some songs and fucking record them. He's having fun. What the fuck do you care? I can't believe all of the time and energy people waste on here trying to put down kids(in their generation no less) for simply having fun. You know, go write a book or a play or something. Or, shit, become a music journalist. Anything other than wasting your time on here, raising a sword to an ice cream cone.
