Nina Nastasia | Burnt Sienna Trio | Tre Orsi (Lola's)
This is the first show I'll probably see at Lola's due to a lineup that features some of the stronger songwriters that I know of, whether they be local or national acts. Nina Nastasia has had a very consistent track record, largely as a result of her willingness to take chances with the concept and backing foundations of her painfully candid and stark songs. She incorporates everything from musical saw, string parts, and abstract drumming in ways that you're not used to hearing from your average singer-songwriter, or at least the kind that get out of bed and into a studio. The surrounding framework never feels forced and instead embellishes the referenced desperation apparent in the lyrics. Her songs stand up to various interpretations whether with a full band, throat singers, accompanied by only a drummer, or by herself. Burntsienna Trio's mix of banjos, blues, guyliner, and The Kinks are an excellent opening choice, as well as the tough yet expansive crunch and chime of Tre Orsi.

Open Minds and Open Mic (1919 Hemphill)
This open mic is from 8 to 9:30 and will feature Fort Worth Weekly writer, Jarid Manos who is the Executive Director of the Great Plains Restoration Council and just authored his first book.

Deep Snapper | The Demigs | The Cut*Off | Grassfight (Rubber Gloves)
This is a benefit for the FMLA of Denton, a group dedicated to gender issue awareness. Deep Snapper will most likely be performing material from their forthcoming release and Grassfight recetly finished an album that they should send to us for review if they haven't already. It's taken us a long time to figure out how to use a PO Box.

Blue Mountain | Chris Flemmons | Blue Petal (Dan's Silver Leaf)

Lost Generation (Fallout Lounge)
Tonight Wanz will be playing some rare Afro-Beat.

80's Night With DJ G (Hailey's)

nina and kennen are cool as shit

nina sounds like a million zillion bux.

fun show

That's a beautifully rendered portrait of an aging Stonedranger.

Some people don't read Quick or the Observer.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment, 9:45.

It was actually Will Johnson and Jaffe playing two nights in a row at two different venues that screwed me up. I saw Friday's shows and just thought that they were only playing Friday at Dan's. In many cases, if we don't list a show it's usually not a snub. There's often another much less interesting or controversial reason.

Only on certain occasions do we actually feel embarrassed just typing someone's name, but then again that can be funny.

I'm really impressed by your grasp of the complex DFW music scene. Especially the fact that you're not too high-and-mighty to plug an open mic event at 1919 or any of the local house shows alongside Naughty by Nature/Young MC.
And honestly, anyone who's gonna go to the Johnston/Jaffe show already read about it in Quick or the Observer. Why would we need MORE promotion of it on WSJR?

...shut up mailman,I got a bad case case of rabies and I ain't afraid to use it,oh...and I ain't afraid of your mace no how.

You're probably not receiving mail because your ZIP code is listed wrong in your contact info. Texas ZIP codes all start with 75 through 79.

You list Johnson / Jaffe in the Shows of Note, but not on the It List?
