it list : wednesday

Something solid happening during the typically dull first week of the new year:

Select | Keith P | Mike F/Schwa(Green Elephant)
Have you ever moved somewhere and had a going away party before you left? If so, did the party receive some kind of sponsorship from Fader Magazine? No? Well then you're probably not as cool as this dude named Tiny who happens to be having a going away party this evening that involves Fader in some capacity. Never thought I'd tell anyone to go the Green Elephant for any reason, but there is a first for everything I suppose....expect a lot of uk garage, baile funk, house, dubstep, hip hop, and anything and everything in between. And if you're lucky, some loose SMU bitches might show up. Not sure who this guy is, really, but the music should be good, and it also happens to be Select's birthday. Go wish him well.

when Curtain Club bought it. Deep Ellum is way dead. With the Dart construction it has become even worse.

the only time it was fun to go to clearview was that time around 1999-2000 when murder city devils and eX-girl and decent local bands played there. and keith was the bartender. ahhhhh, the good old days of underage drinking and lots of black t-shirts!

dubstep is a some kind of dark and largely instrumental mixture of UK garage, minimal/primitive electro, and dub reggae with lots of blips and reverb.

There is also something about the particular beats and rhythms that are used, but there is probably someone else on here that can explain that aspect better than I can.

Its very strange music in my mind, and its actually a little hard to describe.

Well, if Clearviews closed, then why not come out to SHQ in Denton and party?

We've done more work on the space.
It's now more cozy and awesome than ever before.

Friday - Songwriter Thunderdome
8:00 - Free - BYOB
Bring a guitar or something.

Saturday - Bob White and the F-Electrics, Drink to Victory,
plus an Austin band that I cannot find the name of...
8:00 - $3 - BYOB

Sunday - Elliot Smith Tribute Night + Cello Weirdness
Members of Shoeless Agadore pay tribute and then CELLOS WITH EFFECTS PEDALS. Yes.
8:00 - $3 - BYOB

210 East Hickory - Denton, TX

And then while you're in town, head on over to Rubber Gloves, Dan's, or Hailey's and do something sexy!

Dude, is English still being written on this blog? What the fuck is dubstep?!?!?!? I guess if I don't know, I probably don't need to, huh?

year end local post: coming soon.

punk bands: we do cover them. If they're good.

the show you're talking about: no idea. Sorry.

I am fairly new to the blog so pardon me for assuming that you don't cover punk bands. Hopefully, you all can help though since you seem have an ear for what's going on in North Texas.

Can anyone confirm if High Tension Wires is playing with The Ape Shits, Swedish Teens, and Free To Kill Again this Saturday 1/6/07 at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio? I keep hearing different things but the RGRS official site along with the RGRS MySpace do not mention anything but a message via MySpace yielded the cryptic: "We cannot confirm or deny the appearance of High Tension Wires for Saturday's show." High Tension Wires did not respond via MySpace either.

Denton is a bit of a drive for me so I'd rather know before going.

Any help would be appreciated!

"So in that spirit, we'll be doing a couple good posts this week, including a year end look at local music."
