| it list : monday |

I've always meant to recommend Paul Slavens and his improvised night of music at Dan's Silver Leaf on Monday nights. If you haven't heard the set-up, it involves Slavens and a group of expert backing musicians making up songs about topics (accompanied by tips of course) that are submitted by audience members. I'm not so much impressed by the music school factor as I am the ability to sustain the lyrical improvising on all the drunken submissions. I also want to point out that Slavens consistently nails it with his playlist on Sunday nights. ALSOBad Ass Jazz Night at The AmsterdamDedicated to the anon. who predicted it would be on the list. |

Thanks. Yeah, since there were so many (good) bands, we had to keep it a short set. Andrew just put stuff from the new album on the set list, which was fine with me. This Saturday at the Gypsy Tea Room will include old and new stuff. |

I was impressed by Baboon's set at Hailey's though I would have preferred *just one or two* vintage pieces in the set. |

Mr. Slavens is a one-man wrecking crew, albeit a peaceful one. I'm impressed by his musical and lyrical freestyling. |
