Not every song on the new album is a club banger or anything, but there are a few that sound as if they could be really big singles. The MP3 below is one such song. The album is called So This is Goodbye. Listen to it. "In the Morning" ClickAlso, here is a video for Wire's "Ahead," off their 1987 album The Ideal Copy. I must admit, I haven't heard much of that record, although what I have heard sounds quite a bit different from the earlier stuff with which I am more familiar. Really great song: |

Alright, so I listened to that Junior Boys album. I dunno about that. It's good yeah... cool programming and synth stuff, etc.
But this seems to be treading that dangerous ground of getting back to the Erasure/Pet Shop Boys synth pop days and I'm not sure if I can sign off on that.
But hey, This is just my first time through... |

I am now looking forward to that Black Elk show. Carlin, you might want to have them move the tables back for that show too. |

weird. we were just listening to 'the ideal copy' at the store today. madman's honey is amazing.. their next proper record (the 'ideal copy' wasn't a true "album") is more solid as a whole...'a bell is a cup until it is struck'. when they put it out nobody cared. love most of it. also german shepards is great from 'it's beginning to and back again' (IBTABA). -c.j. |

"i agree, SR, but dada's kind of a hard place for a band to rock out in. the stage doesn't really lend itself to that, though i think there's hardcore dance floor if they'd move the tall tables on the right side of the bar farther to the back."
Andrea, I'll be up at Dada on Saturday afternoon getting the place ready for the Dance Party U.S.A. of Ghostland Observatory. That includes moving the tables out of the way. That's one of the first things I mentioned when I booked them there. Need to move the damn tables...people won't be sitting. See ya! |

What is this "lamping" bullcrap?
Here in Texas we call that shit "spotlighting." Drive up on a big 'ol buck, shine the light in his eyes and watch him freeze, hypnotized by the beam of light. Then, of course, you fuck the deer. |

Yeah I like that Wire song. I'm no purist when it comes to them. The first thing I ever heard by them was the song "Drill" maybe Part 1, can't remember. It was on some Mute comp called Tonal Evidence I got in the late 80's or early 90s. When I later got into the first three records it was like I was listening to their development in reverse so it was strange.
I don't know much about their 80's output, but I am a fan of that recent stuff on Send, etc. I bet that album is good. |

I think Dada has some of the best sound of the clubs I've been to down here, and I think they are making a decent effort to try to get some more diverse groups to play there.
I'm not big on the singer songwriter vibe either, but I've only seen like three acts like that there (and that was the same night).
Not many clubs in deep ellum would even bother with booking local indie groups, so bands around here should take advantage of the oppertunity to play another place.
And even if you don't think that "your crowd" hangs out there, why should the same groups always play that same two or three places? Shake things up a bit. rock the faces off the uncoverted. |

wow. Didn't know that about lamping.
And the few times I've been to Dada in recent months have been fairly lame, although it seems that by booking bands like Current Leaves, they're trying to make things a bit better over there. Less singer songwriter stuff would be nice. |

and we'll deduct some props from you, so-called anglophile. you really should be ashamed, you know. i believe damon albarn recently received a good lamping, hint hint. but seriously folks... i thought this chick had a real forum. i believe it's called the dallas observer. and to ryan: o.k., you're new here, got it. so stay out of it!!!!!!!!!! long live savanteous! |

ryan - lord knows i'm one of the worst writers when it comes to explaining what it is about a song or artist i particularly like, but i'll try. the junior boys album is remarkably soft and melodic, but innovative enough with arrangements to hold my attention. it's not trying to be the postal service, which is what some people said about the first album, Last Exit.
i think the lyrics on Goodbye are more accessible than on the first album, and we all know i'm a big whore for lyrics. i feel like Goodbye has a real presence and unity as a record, whereas the first album felt a little disjointed. |

12:01: I'm not sure if you were talking about my comments, but I am not trying to "spread my hatred". I'd just wanted to see someone communicate what makes this Junior Boys record so great.
(Andrea's first comment wasn't up when I had begun my post)
I see a lot of "I love this record" plugs on websites, but then nothing to describe why they love it.
11:56: And unless you listen to everything without caring, you are critical about music. This is a blog about music, and the critique of music. Is it that odd that other people critique music on this site? |

I swear this runs through people's minds when they hear a band is good: "if this band doesn't a)save my fucking life, b)make me instantly cum for 4 weeks straight or c)sound like radiohead, flaming lips or grandaddy they are the absolute worst band ever and if anyone says they like them i'm going on a machine-gun campaign to spread my hatred." |

also, anon 11:15 (who gets additional props for use of the term "slag") ...
If I wanted to get more hits for my site, you can bet I wouldn't be posting on WSJR, where I appear to be universally hated by all and end up getting skewered in every thread by a bunch of anonymous pussballs. Same goes for the Fine Line girls and Sam.
We may all be blithering idiots, but we're not posting here for the great publicity, I can assure you of that. |

in regards to the Junior Boys:
I'd want to hear the full album before I make up my mind, but I don't see what is so special about this group.
It's not overly dancy, crazy, or prolific in scope. I certainly don't hate it, but I'm not sure if it is deserving of the praise I've read about the album on about 4 different sites this week. |

Word on the junior boys thing. it's really fantastic. i liked Last Exit a whole lot, but this kind of amped up where they were going with that one and added some depth. |
