If you haven't heard the Broadcast B sides collection sitting at the #11 spot, you should really give it a listen. Most of its tracks don't really sound like "B sides" at all because they are simply too good for that label. They are sort of like most Pavement B sides, which often make you wonder exactly why they weren't included on an album in the first place. Some of them are immediate enough to have been singles too.
Also, I don't know about you, but the Beirut record has really been growing on me over the past couple of months or so. Its funny that Beirut sounds completely original in many respects, despite the fact that much of the music on the album is inspired by traditional eastern folk that is about ten times older than rock n roll and even blues. Does that say something about the xenophobia of the typical American music fan, or does it just demonstrate how boring Sound Team is?
And finally, I just can't get into that new Thermals record. Anyone else heard it? It seems that they've had it on autopilot since their brilliant debut, which was a true lo fi pop punk masterpiece. Maybe I just need to listen a little more, but I only had to listen to the first Thermals record once to get hooked. |

"I hope when you guys are 40 that you completely abandon your love of music and the quest to find something new. That's assuming, of course, that you have any love for music at all right now and this isn't just some big fashion show indie hipster parade for you. Because clearly - age and wardrobe are the only indicators of musical taste and any deviance from your arbitrarily stringent notions of what's acceptable should preclude guys older that you from liking good music. Right?"
uh, right! |

"pete yorn!?! are you fucking kidding me? does GoodRecords have an intense yuppie customer base or something?"
you're in dallas, think about it.
and isn't that place located on GREENVILLE avenue, not moments from hip places w/ one sylable (no, i can't spell) words containing "sh" and "v.i.p" access? (plush, slush, mesh, pesh, wish, crash, resh, whatever-elsh) |

I meant "Good" business. Never mind. I've now killed a lame joke. That's hard to do. |

Fair enough, john d. Though I'm sure Good Records probably won't criticize customers who buy 5 CDs at a time. Just good business for them. Get it? "Good business"? I crack myself up... |

i saw the thermals at sxsw '05. i wanted to hate them because an ex-girlfriend liked them so much. but, it was a great, energetic live set. i'll give the new album a listen when i'm in the studio wednesday night from 8p-10p doing my radio show on radio.utdallas.edu. shameless. |

I have nothing against guys in their forties coming out to see bands they love, but when seeing someone like Pete Yorn on the top 20 it is valid to criticize because I'm behind them in line to check out and they always buy about five cd's and...Guess what, its Pete Yorn, Ani Difranco, and three other yuppie fair. No joke. |

wow.. so interesting you mention that first Thermals record. I just bought it this weekend. The guy at the store in OKlahoma told me to buy it instead of their new record. I LOVE the cd and (based on the new cd bashing) I guess I made the right choice |

They certainly have some kind of yuppie customer base, ever been to an instore there? There is always a couple guys that come in who are in their late forties and have on jeans and a sports coat. You can always spot them in the back near the staircase. |
