this it list is a shit list

Because it is hot as hell and there isn't really anything going on today that interests us, we're not going to write about anything. However, if you want to hear what happens when you take every "indie" cliche of the past seven years and wrap it up in a nice little cute as a button package for a 14 year old girl, you can check out the Myspace page for Simon Dawes, who will be playing at the Tea Room tonight. They sound like an American Apparel Gift Certificate.

thanks for the insight on the save our scene thing. it sounds like it could be a good idea but not surprisingly it's more of a save our bank accounts sort of thing which sadly will probably just become some sort of discussion on how make the black people stop coming down to deep ellum...

You need to make a t-shirt. On an American Apparel item, natch, that reads: "Your Band Sounds Like An American Apparel Gift Certificate" in a bitchy font.

I'd buy one.

What goes around comes around. Everything has it's cycle. Those Deep Ellum clubs kept the bands down, never gave them good nights to play, no support if they even returned a phone call. Getting their just desserts if you ask me. Finding a place to do your own thing and build something where people give you a chance to build- thats what its about.

I went to July Alley last night around 7:30. I did not know what time it started. I left after 5 minutes because I really did not think I could stomache the amount of bullshit they were gonna spew. I know some of the people involved and they are completely oblivious to the fact that they are part of the problem.

Yeah, I think its something I'm going to write a more formal post about some time soon... if those people think they are going to "save" our "scene" with more of the same old garbage, they are mistaken.

Thank again for the quip young Lester.

Oh, I just found out it starts at 9, but they want people to start showing up at 7. Just in case we want to patronize the establishments. Sorry for so many posts in a short amount of time. Now I will go back to my hole.

I've been reading a bit about the Save our Scene thing. It is complete garbage. It's a bunch of club owners, promoters, and band members that are mostly into hard rock. But they're pretty much just griping that they can't get people out to their shows. For their first fund-raiser show they want to have a bunch of cover bands on a Wednesday night. Sounds like a fantastically horrible time.
I wish I knew what time the meeting at July Alley started tonight so I could go. Maybe I'll just go crash it. A train wreck can't really notice a small fender bender off to the side, can it?

stonedranger says..11:40 PM

I remember hearing some stuff about that, but I have no clue what happened to it. I guess no one considered Dallas worth saving.

jonofdeath says..11:36 PM

Was anyone around to see the Save our City thing a few years ago? Whatever happened to that?

if anyone does, i'm considering going. no time or address anywhere.

yeah, i really don't know what the hell that thing is supposed to be either.

I got the joke and laughed out loud at work and will steal it from you.

Just wanted to relay the surprise I felt when I listened to something I didn't expect to like - at all. I mean I am usually a BASTARD to people showing me shit they like. I'm sitting here wondering what the hell is wrong with me.

What's next; am I going to "come around" on Sparklehorse? WTF?

stonedranger says..9:45 PM

well, to each his own I suppose... it was really just a joke more than anything else.

Anonymous says..9:34 PM

shit. i'm doing this anonymously because i don't want to be skewered but...
i went to the myspace link and, besides a few HUGE lyrical missteps, i like it. it doesn't sound contrived or nearly as derivative as most bands. I mean, they are derivative in the sense that rock is 50 years old and there's not much innovation left in it, but i was really surprised that i like it. And really, seriously, I don't like much new shit. Maybe there's some hype, or a radio song you guys have heard a million times that I haven't...?
Skewer me now.
