LOCAL MUSIC LAW #63: Christian emo dudes aren't allowed to act like Jesus is cool, and they certainly aren't allowed to act like they're really chilled out about the whole thing. If you've played at The Door, you're a nerd. There are no exceptions to this rule.

More Lift to Experience: WHERE IS PEARSON? He has a MySpace page now but won't respond. Hasnt been seen much if an all in these parts of late. LTE was some of the most messed-up amazing pompous/brillaince ever. Also last time I saw Andy he had lost a hundred pounds and a couple chins. Perhaps due to ... influence?

shout out to my homie Jesus- THE WORD!

Anonymous says..10:49 PM

also, dont get me started on the number of rap artists that give shout-outs to god in their liner notes.

i dunno. i havent listened to rocket summer but i would probably hate it. but there are some excellent "secret jesus" bands arent secretive about jesus, but dont preach from the stage. and i like it like that. i like for artists to incorporate what they believe into their art. Sufjan Stevens, Danielson Famile, Fishboy, Half-Handed Cloud, Lift To Experience, Bosque Brown, Soul Junk, Joseph Arthur, Pedro the Lion, John Vanderslice all take up with artists like Johnny Cash, Nick cave, Leonard Cohen, Sam Cooke, Blind Willie McTell, John Coltrane, lots of old country, blues and soul singers, who are christians, but also real musicians.

they ARE allowed to act like they've really chilled out about the whole thing. I mean, have you ever talked to a new vegetarian that doesnt try to ruin thanksgiving dinner? people are fucked up. even if they have found god.

OMG... Drugs and booze in rock and roll?

Perfume ads in magazines sometimes have a flap that say Lift to Experience.

Anonymous says..6:10 PM

christian or not, LTE's name could have easily been interpreted as:

Lift (the whiskey) to Experience
Lift (the joint) to Experience -or-
Lift (the coke straw) to Experience

any arguement that extreme christianity can lead to a guilty conviction?

and LTE has as much to do with RELIGION as the KJV does -- unless, of course, a pair of bibles have knocked on your door at 9 in the morning

jesus was a good man but now hes a dead man -- a sort of Dylan turned Stalin by his biggest fans -- he said alotta things i can understand, but to worship him? nah

hmm....i guess the world of independent music blogs is just as closed-minded as any other. it's 'cool' and safe to be an indie-rockin' agnostic, but being a christian is uncool i suppose. this is patently ridiculous. danielson famile played at the door and i'm pretty sure daniel smith's new one is about as good as it gets, christian or not....

Lift to Experience has been all over this blog for the past week or so, haven't they?

Except for their current plans for a summer tour together

...lift to experience the rocket summer tour.

Anonymous says..9:24 PM

Yeah, Lift to Experience was a very complex and chaotic gust of conflicted emotions, and stream of consiousness vocals. So far from the refined pop "perfection" of this kid. Really, any comparison is ridiculous.

Lift to Experience wasn't Secret Jesus. Lift to Experience was I'm Fucked Up From Jesus.

HUGE difference.

Can you say Lift to Experience? I think they are also responsible for the beard thing. Get a razor. find the satan in your heart.

johnh says..5:38 PM

probably a Denton band, I mean look at all the beards...Jesus has to be in there somewhere

What exactly is a Secret Jesus band?
What bands are hiding Jesus in them?

haha... the simpsons have "bigger fish to fry", i think.

...hopefully they won't infultrate the indie world any time too soon (or whatever world this is)

...although maybe ashlee simpson was trying just that

that kids gonna have a tough time stayin true to the lawwwd if he wants to sell millions of albums to millions of children at the mall. i guess you have to sell your soul while still pretending that jesus is your number one priority ("I play shitty music for 15 year olds for JESUS! see, i tell these kids to like him, so that one day, they can be like me and pawn some product in some commercial")

...so rock'n'roll it hurts

Anonymous says..4:11 PM

yes oh so pretty twilight...

hey the joke was on me, I thought it might be Papa Joe Simpson forcing some goddamn propaganda off on me.

Anonymous says..3:55 PM

but can we all admit that that is a very pretty twilight in the background?

Anonymous says..3:51 PM

you morons..... that was a joke.

like anyone who reads this blog would think that rocket summer and ryan cabrera are good/doing anything other than whatever some lady says will make them famous

I heard that the Door charges bands $150 to play there. If that is true, that is shit man!!

Also dear first anon comment... YOU SUCK!

Let's talk about Secret Jesus.

D-D-FW has a TON of
Secret Jesus bands.

A lot of folks around here also have roots in the early/mid-90's
mid-cities god rock scene.
I find that more excusable than being presently Secret Jesus.

Polysics played The Door because it SXSW time and everywhere was booked. I wanted to see that show, but Serena Maneesh was pl,aying that night along with 6 other really good shows at 6 other venues. Busy night. The year before when they came through for SXSW they played Club DADA. Another unlikely venue for them.

Funny story: I saw Bryce open for Idlewild at Trees a few years ago. The line-up? Him, a drummer and a DAT machine playing backing tracks.

The Polysics played The Door last year or the year before.

Door Dallas and Door Ft Worth are awful! Except I did go to see a friends band play there along time ago and they got thrown out for cursing and vomiting on stage... I think they could be exluded from the nerd thing.

Anonymous says..2:21 PM

these guys suck. They are doing nothing more for Dallas than promoting the idea that Dallas is lame. There is a whole other side of the Dallas music scene that does not suck. These guys are shit. I would enjoy watching them get the shit kicked out of them by a gang of junkies.

anonymous with an "anon" says..1:30 PM

"whatever, him and ryan cabrerra are doing more for dallas music than this blog can hope to do. period."

you gotta be kidding me. thats like saying jessica simpson promoted dallas. hell, people thought tripping daisy were from LA. if they want to represent dallas, they have to talk about it.
