Playing all types of ill shit, including classic house, disco, underground new wave, etc. One of the better weeknight parties in Dallas.

yeah, its related... metrognome did cd samplers and showcase shows for a few years before we got this space.

And to address the question of Dallas/Denton vs Fort Worth, I just dont think the "hipster" crowd is going to support us. People don't drive down from denton, or in from dallas. Everyone is enthsiastic and supportive, but when it comes down to coming out to the show, the people just arent there. It was worth a try, but I understand, I dont drive to denton for shows except really exceptional touring acts, like The Books, or Danielson, and the last time i went to dallas for a show... hmm. was probably Camper Van Beethoven at gypsy.

We had a meeting about it last night, and our next focus is going to be on getting our 501(c)3 status as federally tax exempt, and see if we can get some grant money/and or local philanthropists to pay the bills. Maybe then we can get an AC, and start offering the bands guarantees, and afford to improve the space a little more.

So DIY? whatever. Having a starbucks in the building will bring out a lot more traffic than any band from DFWd. And to be frank, unless we get more traffic, the space will just be one more grand, but failed experiment.

That being said, it is a really cool place, and if good bands are playing and you aren't too tired or too poor to pay for gas, then the drive is worth it. Good atmoshpere, cool crowd.

yeah, i'd say fort worth is the type of place where you'd better hype some shit up or NO ONE will be there.

... like, if you can't convince people to drive from dallas/denton to ft. worth for your show then i wouldn't bother....

...cause if dallas and denton people won't drive 30 minutes, what makes you think that anyone in ft worth (not already involved in the metrognome) will drive 5 minutes???

go frogs and everything, but c'mon.

oh, and i found a cd that i got @ cd world a LOOOOONG time ago, it has random local bands on it, and on the cd it says "metrognome collective".... is this related, or just a very wierd coincidence... the only band i can remember being on there is Sonic Death Monkees (or however they spelled it)

I really hope it works over there for you James, because your ideas are bigger and better than anyone else's, and metrognome is cooler than ANY venue in Dallas... not to mention a great place for visual art and film.

I pray every day that I'll wake up one morning and find out that you moved it to Dallas.

Dude James, the local bands have to do their own promotion too. Surely Terry and his two bandmates know some people, they need to get them out. At the very least. This needs to be stressed to the local bands.
That said, I have never thought much of FW having grown up there, and FW is I guess proving me right after all, despite some people's claims to the contrary. Talk is cheap.

The show last night was listed on NPR, Fort Worth Weekly, mentioned here, and our myspace, website, printed calendars, and we had FOUR people there last night aside from the bands and volunteers...

That's fine. No problem. The Metrognome is going to book nothing but blues cover bands from now on. And maybe some bands that sound like nickelback. You know, for the kids. Definitely no more "solo-percussion touring acts" or "experimental down tempo electronica." Who the hell even knows what that means, anyway?

We are also opening a Starbucks in the warehouse.

good point. i just posted it. i was also happy to hear us mentioned on DITA today

we also got this fw weekly blurb

"At the other end of the music spectrum — like, by the hallucinogens — the Metrognome Collective (1518 E. Lancaster Ave.) welcomes to town San Francisco sound artist and master percussionist Stephen Flinn, who’s just passing through as part of his Bald Ambition tour. (The name is a snarky take-off on Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour of 1990 — Flinn is bald.) Also on the bill tonight (Wednesday) is _statictrio, an equally trippy sound-slash-artful-noise project helmed by Fort Worth’s Terry Horn that will be celebrating the release of a new c.d. Visit www.stephenflinn.com or call the Collective at 817-810-9777. ... "

anyway i hope to see people there and not an empty house for an impressive act. Solo Percussion! i mean really, who does that?
